Biography
Scott Derrickson (born July 16, 1966, Denver, Colorado) is an American filmmaker, screenwriter and producer known for his genre-blending work in horror and superhero films. After earning his BA in Humanities and Communications from Biola University and an MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, he made his directorial debut with Hellraiser: Inferno (2000). He gained acclaim with The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005), then directed the Marvel blockbuster Doctor Strange (2016) and the hit horror film The Black Phone (2021). Recently he returned to genre work with The Gorge (2025) and is set to direct Black Phone 2. Known for his bold visuals and thematic exploration of good vs. evil, Derrickson has established a distinctive presence in modern genre filmmaking.
