Awal Abdulfatai Rahmat is a Nigerian-born filmmaker, director, screenwriter, and producer known for his impactful storytelling and contributions to African cinema. After earning a B.A. in English and Literature from the University of Lagos, he began his career in Nigerian television, producing shows like The Next Movie Star and Supermom. In 2013, he moved to South Africa, working with Planet Radio TV and later founding McAwal Concerns Productions. His notable works include Descent (2017), Silent Scream (2017), and Penance (2025), which is streaming on Amazon Prime. Rahmat's films often explore social issues, reflecting his commitment to meaningful storytelling.
