Biography
Bakare Zhainab Opeyemi (professionally known as Zainab Bakare) is a Nigerian actress and filmmaker who has become a dominant figure in the Yoruba sector of Nollywood. Beginning her career in 2011 under the mentorship of actress Omowumi Ajiboye, she transitioned from a protégé to a powerhouse producer, releasing her debut production Owu Iya Gbon in 2017. In 2025 and 2026, Bakare's profile surged due to both her cinematic output and her vocal presence on social issues within the industry. She gained significant attention for her role as a producer with the epic movie "Iyunade" (released late 2024/2025), which marked her shift into large-scale, culturally rich storytelling. She also starred in a string of high-performing 2025 YouTube releases, including "Expensive Olosho" and "Iyawo Mi". Her 2026 began with a viral industry moment. In January 2026, Bakare was at the center of a heated public debate following the service of songs for her late colleague, Allwell Ademola. After critics accused her of "overreacting" and performing grief for the cameras, Bakare issued a fierce rebuttal, condemning the "distasteful exploitation" of her mourning and promising to address her detractors fully after the burial. Bakare is also known for her candor regarding body image. She has openly discussed her cosmetic surgery (BBL) in interviews, challenging industry stigmas while maintaining that her longevity is due to her talent and "grace," not just her physique.

KILANKO draws a powerful line between belief and medicine, revealing the parallel suffering of the Abiku child, treated through traditional rituals, and sickle cell, managed by orthodox care—different paths, same devastating grief. Through this painful intersection, the film exposes how loss remains constant while solutions differ, and boldly explores the unwavering depth, resilience, and sacrifices of African mothers who carry love, faith, and sorrow in equal measure. As love battles tradition, faith, and fear, the film exposes the hidden cost of motherhood and asks a haunting question: who pays the price when a child is labeled invincible?.
