Biography
Christian Mänz is a world-class VFX architect known for blending high-fantasy creatures into grounded, lived-in environments. He began his career at Framestore as a runner in 1997 after training as an illustrator. His early work included landmark projects like the Oscar-winning The Golden Compass and multiple Harry Potter films. In the mid-2020s, Mänz reached a new career peak as the Production VFX Supervisor for the live-action reimagining of How to Train Your Dragon (2025). Working closely with director Dean DeBlois, Mänz oversaw the translation of iconic animated dragons into photo-realistic, "living, breathing" creatures. As of February 2026, he is a primary contender at both the BAFTAs and the Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards for his work on the film.
