Biography
Clare Binney is a distinguished Australian actress who rose to prominence during the "Australian New Wave" of cinema in the 1970s. She is most famous for her portrayal of Susan in Bruce Beresford’s 1976 masterpiece Don’s Party. Her performance as the young, university-student girlfriend of Grainger Cooley helped ground the film’s biting social satire and earned the production six AFI Awards. Following her success in Don's Party, Binney became a reliable presence in Australian television and film throughout the early 1980s. She appeared in the prestigious 1981 miniseries I Can Jump Puddles, based on Alan Marshall's autobiography, and took on dramatic roles in thrillers like Hostage (1983). While her screen appearances became less frequent after the mid-80s, her work remains a staple of Australian film studies and retro screenings.
