Biography

Crystal R. Fox is an American actress and singer with a career spanning over four decades. A veteran of the stage and screen, she is the niece of legendary singer Nina Simone. While she first gained national fame as Sgt. Luann Corbin in In the Heat of the Night (1989–1995), she became a modern household name through her eight-season run as the resilient matriarch Hanna Young in Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots. In early 2026, Fox is receiving widespread acclaim for her role in the Netflix limited series "His & Hers" (premiered January 8, 2026). She plays Alice Andrews, the reclusive mother of the protagonist Anna (Tessa Thompson). In a role described by critics as a "masterclass in misdirection," Fox portrays a woman ostensibly struggling with early-onset dementia in the mountains of Georgia. Her character becomes the focal point of the series' shocking finale, with Fox’s performance cited as the emotional and narrative anchor of the show’s twist ending. This follows her recent work in the Apple TV+ comedy "The Big Door Prize", where she was a series regular before the show concluded its run in 2024/2025. She also cemented her status as a leading lady in the 2020 thriller "A Fall From Grace", which remains one of Netflix’s most-watched original films to date.
