Biography
David Jonsson is a British actor and filmmaker born in London in 1993. He grew up in East London’s Docklands in a family of African, Caribbean and Swedish heritage. After leaving school, he spent two formative years in New York before returning to London, where he joined the National Youth Theatre and won a scholarship to RADA, graduating in acting in 2016. Early in his career he made a name for himself on the stage, performing in West End productions including Mary Stuart and Don Juan in Soho. His screen work followed, with television roles in Endeavour, Deep State, and the BBC/HBO series Industry. In film, he has starring turns in Rye Lane (2023) and Alien: Romulus (2024). He also writes and directs short work, like Gen Y. Recognition has come his way: he won a Black British Theatre Award in 2021, was named one of Tatler’s Bright Young Things in 2023, and won the BAFTA Rising Star award in 2025. Jonsson continues to develop original film, television, and theatre projects, pushing himself both in front of and behind the camera.
