Faniswa Yisa is a South African actress, director, and theatre-maker renowned for her dynamic performances across stage and screen. A graduate of the University of Cape Town's drama school, she has graced international stages in 19 countries and earned accolades such as the 2018 Fleur du Cap Best Actress Award for her role in What Remains. Her screen credits include Knuckle City, Skin, and DAM. In 2023, she was appointed curator of the Baxter Masambe Theatre, aiming to foster a vibrant creative space for emerging artists. Yisa is also a passionate advocate for women's voices in the arts

Runs in the Family" is a South African road trip comedy-drama about a reformed con artist, Varun, and his transmasculine son, River, who embark on a journey to break River's estranged mother out of rehab, leading to an unexpected drag competition. It starts off in Cape Town with River, a young trans man who needs to win a drag competition to raise R50 000 for his top surgery. The father, however, drags him on a cross-country road trip to get his mother out of rehab just a few days before the competition, which sets the scene for the rest of the movie to unfold.
