Biography
Hamadi Mwapachu is a Tanzanian filmmaker, actor, and screenwriter known for his debut feature film, Dar Noir (2015). Born in Ethiopia in 1976, he was raised in Tanzania, Kenya, and England, attending boarding schools before studying law at the University of Exeter. He later trained in acting at the London International School of Acting. Mwapachu appeared in various stage productions and films, including Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (2005). After returning to Tanzania in 2012, he wrote and directed Dar Noir, a noir-inspired crime thriller set in Dar es Salaam. The film explores the city's transformation from socialist ideals to a pursuit of wealth, following a troubled detective entangled in a web of crime and personal demons. Dar Noir was showcased at several international film festivals, including the Curaçao International Film Festival Rotterdam, Amakula International Film Festival in Kampala, and the Helsinki African Film Festival. In addition to his work in film, Mwapachu has experience in business development, having worked with Azania Resources in Tanzania.
