Hannah Beachler is an Academy Award-winning production designer whose work is celebrated for its emotional depth and meticulous world-building. Growing up in rural Ohio, she was heavily influenced by her father, an architect, and her grandfather, a carpenter. She began her career in the art department of small independent films, eventually forming a career-defining partnership with director Ryan Coogler, beginning with his debut Fruitvale Station (2013). In 2019, Beachler made history as the first African American to win the Academy Award for Best Production Design for her work on Marvel’s Black Panther. Beyond film, she has curated cultural exhibits, including the Afrofuturist Period Room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
