Biography
Ian Mark Kimanje is a Ugandan-Canadian filmmaker, writer, director and producer. He is founder of Film Garage North / Film Garage Studios, with experience spanning Africa, Europe, North America and Australia. Kimanje first gained recognition with his short film Shomilu, and has since made several documentary films and series. His 2025 feature documentary Carnival: They Can't Steal Our Joy examines the cultural history and global impact of Caribbean Carnival. Outside film, he runs children- and youth-focused media initiatives across Africa
