Biography

Johnny Drille (born John Ighodaro on July 5, 1990) is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer known for his soulful voice, emotive lyrics and blend of folk, alternative and contemporary Afro-pop. He first gained recognition after participating in Nigerian Idol in 2015, which helped him build an early fan base. His breakout came with the 2015 single “Wait for Me,” which showcased his storytelling ability and unique sound beyond mainstream Afrobeats. Drille went on to sign with Mavin Records, where he released hits such as Romeo & Juliet, Count on You and Like You featuring Simi. His debut album, Before We Fall Asleep (2021), was praised for its cohesive songwriting and musical range, establishing him as one of Nigeria’s leading alternative artists. He’s also written and produced for other artists and collaborated widely across the industry. Known for his deep vocal tone and lyrical themes of love and introspection, Drille continues to influence the Nigerian music scene.
