Inspired by the rich Asante culture of Ghana, “Abrefi Koto” tells the story of empowerment and innovation. It was forbidden for women to weave the sacred kente cloth however, today, you will find many women in the kente weaving business. “Abrefi Koto’s story” imagines the catalyst for this change. Our heroine, a self-taught warrior, fights for women’s rights in this immersive journey through the sights, sounds, and beliefs of the Asante kingdom in pre-colonial Ghana. From the veneration of Mother Nature (Asaase Yaa) to the vibrant music, dance, and dialect, the film unlocks the hidden language woven into the iconic kente cloth, revealing the messages whispered by its patterns.
