Lawrence Murage is a Nairobi-based screenwriter, director, and filmmaker known for his work in both film and theatre. A self-taught writer, Lawrence honed his craft through practical experience and online resources, establishing himself as a member of the Kenya Scriptwriters Guild and the Kenya Actors Guild. His notable works include the short films Gunpoint and What's On Your Mind?, both of which garnered multiple awards and nominations. In 2023, he co-founded Kwa Ndego Productions, a theatre company dedicated to producing Gikuyu-language plays that explore indigenous stories. Under this banner, he directed and co-produced Wangu wa Makeri, a musical play that debuted at the Kenya National Theatre in May 2025. The production delves into the complex legacy of Wangu wa Makeri, a colonial-era Kikuyu leader, offering a nuanced portrayal that challenges historical narratives.
