Biography
Lonzo Nzekwe is a Nigerian-Canadian filmmaker known for telling stories that bridge cultures. Based in Toronto, he’s the writer, director, and producer behind Anchor Baby (2010), which won Best Film at the Harlem International Film Festival, and Meet The Parents (2016), which earned Best Short Film at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. His latest feature, Orah (2023), a crime thriller, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was nominated for Best Director and Best Film at the 2024 AMAA. A self-taught filmmaker, Nzekwe began his creative journey after moving from Nigeria to Canada in 2005. He co-founded FEVA TV, Canada’s first Black-owned 24-hour TV network, and later launched IronFlix, a production and streaming company. His work often explores themes of immigration, identity, and resilience, reflecting his own experiences. Nzekwe continues to push boundaries in transnational cinema, creating films that resonate with audiences across continents.
