Biography
Hassan Mageye is a Ugandan filmmaker based in Los Angeles, known for his work as a director, writer, producer, and actor. After earning a degree in Mass Communication from Makerere University, he was inspired to pursue filmmaking in 2010 upon noticing a lack of quality in local productions. His debut film, Bwekatalijilya, marked the beginning of a prolific career. Mageye has since created over 15 films, including Devil's Chest (2017), which won multiple awards at the Uganda Film Festival, such as Best Feature Film and Best Director. His other notable works include Bedroom Chains (2022) and Tinka's Story (2022). Mageye is passionate about telling authentic African stories and has showcased his films at various international festivals. Despite challenges like piracy and limited funding, he continues to contribute to the growth of Uganda's film industry.
