Matthew Broderick

March 21, 1962 (63 years old)

Biography

Matthew Broderick was born on March 21, 1962, in Manhattan, New York. Son of actor James Broderick and playwright-painter Patricia Broderick, he grew up surrounded by the arts. He trained at HB Studio and made his stage debut at age 17 in a workshop production alongside his father. His breakout came in theater with a Tony-Award win for Brighton Beach Memoirs followed by Biloxi Blues. On screen he soared to fame in the 1980s, with early roles in WarGames and Ladyhawke, but it was Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) that made him a household name. His film work is diverse: from voicing adult Simba in The Lion King to roles in The Cable Guy, Godzilla, Election, and You Can Count on Me. He’s also had success on Broadway, winning a Tony for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and starring in The Producers. Beyond work, he married actress Sarah Jessica Parker in 1997. They have three children and divide their time between New York and Ireland, where he spent summers as a child. Known for charm, wit, and a range that stretches from comedy to serious drama, Broderick remains one of the more enduring figures of both stage and screen.
