Moshood Abiola Obatula is a Nigerian filmmaker and founder of Related Motion, a production company known for its visually compelling and emotionally resonant films. Born in Lagos, he pursued film and television studies at CityVarsity in Johannesburg, where he developed his distinctive cinematic style characterized by long takes, unconventional framing, and a blend of magical realism with cultural motifs. His debut short film, Stretch and Plague, earned him a Best Director award at a local film festival. Obatula gained international recognition with his 2024 feature film Agemo, a supernatural thriller that delves into themes of manipulation, power dynamics, and the exploitation of the vulnerable. The film, which follows the mysterious disappearances of female corps members during a Yoruba festival, was co-produced by Adewale Obatula, Saheed Busari, and Oluwashina Omisope, and written by Esther Olayinka Omoyele. Agemo was showcased at various international film festivals, including ARFF Amsterdam and WSXA Amsterdam. Through Related Motion, Obatula continues to craft narratives that challenge societal norms and provoke thoughtful reflection, solidifying his reputation as a visionary in the Nigerian film industry.
