Biography
Odongo Robbie is a self-taught Kenyan filmmaker, screenwriter, and director known for his compelling storytelling and commitment to social issues. Raised in Bondo, he began his artistic journey in theater, performing set book plays after high school. Despite lacking formal film education, Robbie honed his craft through online tutorials and feedback from audiences and critics. His breakout film, Bangarang, draws from real events surrounding post-election violence in Kenya, notably the tragic death of baby Samantha Pendo. The film has garnered over 40 award nominations, including Best African Feature Film at the Durban International Film Festival and Best East African Film in Uganda. It has been featured on platforms like Netflix and Amazon, amplifying its reach. Robbie's other notable works include Piny go Jawajawa, Seredo, and Jonarobi, each exploring themes like alcoholism, poverty, and societal pressures. Through his production company, LeQwood Productions, he continues to create films that resonate with audiences, aiming to spark conversations and inspire change.
