Biography
Ovunda Ihunwo is an Associate Professor of Theatre and Film Studies at the University of Port Harcourt. Born in Port Harcourt in 1977, he holds both a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Film Studies with a focus on production, acting, and directing. He is widely respected for his scholarship in performance and film aesthetics, as well as his dedication to training the next generation of theatre and film professionals. Outside academia, Ovunda is a versatile creative. He is an actor, dancer, singer, and director with an impressive body of work. His gospel music projects and stage productions include Hopes of the Living Dead, The Gods Are Not to Blame, King Jaja of Opobo, and The Concubine. He has also featured in Nollywood titles such as Beulah (2021), Blood Vessel (2023), and Ekpebiwo m (I Have Decided) (2024), alongside short films like Paraphilia, Beyond the Steam, and Chiringo. He has served in leadership positions with the Actors Guild of Nigeria and the Directors Guild of Nigeria, and is a recipient of the Fellow of Theatre Arts title. Ovunda is also a husband and father of four.
