Ravi Karmalker

Biography

Ravi Karmalker is a German-Indian filmmaker and founder of Good Karma Fiction International. Born in Bombay and raised across India, Germany, and Brussels, he brings a multicultural perspective to his work. Since the early 2000s, Ravi has created innovative factual formats for broadcasters like WDR, ARD, ZDF, and RTL, earning 18 top awards and nominations, including the German Television Award and a Grimme Prize nomination. His storytelling spans continents, notably with the German-Kenyan series Country Queen (2022), co-produced with Netflix and ZDF/ARTE. The series topped Netflix Kenya's charts for over five weeks and received a Grimme Prize nomination in 2024. His feature film Chaguo (2022) also gained international acclaim, winning four awards and securing a spot in Netflix Kenya's Top 10. Currently, Ravi is developing three Afro-European high-end TV series, supported by German film foundations and in collaboration with platforms like ARTE, ZDF, Netflix, CANAL+, and Showmax. His work continues to bridge cultures and push the boundaries of storytelling.
