Biography
Sobe Charles Umeh is a Nigerian-Canadian filmmaker renowned for his work as a director, producer, and editor. Born in Enugu, Nigeria, he began his filmmaking journey in 2015 with the feature film Bad Drop, which earned multiple awards and nominations. He gained further recognition for directing Amonye Bu Onye, which won Best Indigenous Movie at the 2017 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. Other notable projects include Sorelle, Black Vision, and On the Brink, which received a Special Jury Award at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival. In 2014, Sobe relocated to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, with his wife, Isioma Concilia. He is currently in post-production for his first Canadian feature film, Parallel. Beyond filmmaking, Sobe is active in community service and civic engagement. In 2024, he ran for City Councillor in Regina’s Ward 4, focusing on issues like public safety and fiscal responsibility. He continues to bridge African storytelling with Canadian cinema, contributing to both cultural landscapes.
