Biography
Tecla Joan is a filmmaker known for weaving African traditions, women's empowerment, and supernatural elements into her storytelling. Her journey into film began at 17 when she joined Magharibi TV as a trainee editor. She later honed her skills at the MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy, earning a certificate in filmmaking. Tecla's early work includes the 2019 film Ensulo, where she served as a writer and production designer, earning her the Best Production Designer award at the Kalasha Awards. She continued to build her portfolio with roles in the TV series Teke (2020) and the feature film Sleep (2021). Her breakthrough came as the showrunner for the TV series Salem, solidifying her reputation in Kenya's film industry. Tecla's work is characterized by her ability to find light in dark narratives, often infusing humor into serious themes. Beyond her creative endeavors, Tecla is passionate about uplifting African voices and stories, aiming to inspire and empower through her films.
