Biography
Wanuri Kahiu is an acclaimed Kenyan filmmaker, author, and Afrofuturist known for her bold storytelling and visionary work. Born in Nairobi, she gained international recognition for directing Rafiki (2018), a groundbreaking LGBTQ+ love story that was the first Kenyan film to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. A co-founder of AFROBUBBLEGUM, she champions African art that is fun, fierce, and frivolous. Kahiu holds degrees from UCLA and the University of Warwick. Her films often blend African traditions with modern themes, making her a leading voice in African cinema and a cultural trailblazer with a growing global influence.
