At the FilmOne Exhibitors Showcase 2025, award-winning filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele shared a surprising revelation about her upcoming movie, Behind The Scenes.
Speaking candidly, Akindele revealed that the project wasn’t her original plan. She had intended to release A Tribe Called Judah Part 2, the sequel to her record-breaking 2023 hit. In fact, pre-production had already begun with rehearsals, training, and negotiations underway before a strong spiritual conviction redirected her path.
“I wasn’t supposed to produce or release Behind The Scenes,” she said. “I actually wanted to release A Tribe Called Judah Part 2. We’d already started rehearsals, negotiations, and training. But the Spirit of God kept telling me no, you will not shoot that film.”
She went on to explain how she and her team attempted several alternative scripts in search of the right project, but nothing clicked.
“We tried almost four other scripts,” Akindele continued. “Lovely stories, fantastic ideas. Even when we planned to partner with another great filmmaker, the Spirit kept saying, ‘You’re wasting your time. You will shoot this film.’”
According to her, Behind The Scenes carries a deeply relatable message that many people need to hear.
“This story is relatable. Many people are going through what is happening in this film. The message is important, it’s about waking people up. We put our everything into it mentally and physically. It was a lot of work, but I’m so happy it’s finally ready.”
Behind The Scenes hits cinemas nationwide December 12th, featuring Uzor Arukwe, Ibrahim Chatta, Iyabo Ojo, Scarlet Gomez, Dele Odule, Tobi Bakre, Destiny Etiko, Akinyoola Ayoola, Victoria Adeyele, Uche Montana, Ini Dima-Okojie, Afeez Oyetoro, and more.
With this revelation, fans are now on their toes, not just eager to see Behind The Scenes, but also waiting for the day A Tribe Called Judah Part 2 finally becomes a reality.
