Nollywood romantic comedy Call of My Life has added another international milestone to its run, winning the Favourite Feature Narrative Audience Award at the 2026 BlackStar Film Festival in Philadelphia, United States.
Directed by Dammy Twitch, Call of My Life was among the films selected for this year’s BlackStar Film Festival, where it had its United States festival premiere on August 7 at the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center. The festival’s official programme describes the film as a feature narrative centred on heartbreak, vulnerability and the courage to open yourself up to love again.
The audience award gives the Nigerian romantic comedy another moment to celebrate after its theatrical run at home.
Call of My Life follows Soluchi, a 31-year-old call centre agent still trying to move past the emotional scars of a previous relationship. Her ordinary workday takes an unexpected turn when a customer call connects her with Eli, a man whose kindness and attention gradually draw her out of her shell.
What begins as a simple conversation develops into something deeper, forcing Soluchi to confront the fear of rejection that has kept her from fully embracing love again.
The film stars Uzoamaka Power, Andrew Yaw Bunting, Beverly Osu, Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwor, Zubby Michael, Broda Shaggi and Justin Chukwudi Ugonna. Power also wrote the screenplay, while Blessing Uzzi produced the film under Bluhouse Studios.
Call of My Life opened in Nigerian cinemas on May 15, 2026, and was also released theatrically in Ghana. The film has since continued to travel beyond its original cinema run, with screenings and festival appearances bringing the story to audiences outside Nigeria.
For Dammy Twitch, the BlackStar recognition adds to what has already been a significant year for the filmmaker. Known primarily for his work in commercials and music videos, he made his feature-film directorial debut with Call of My Life.
The film’s BlackStar appearance also places it within a festival programme dedicated to showcasing work by Black and Indigenous filmmakers from around the world. Its selection alongside films from different filmmaking communities reflects the growing opportunities for Nigerian stories to travel into international cinema spaces.
For a Nollywood romantic comedy that started its journey in Nigerian cinemas, Call of My Life is clearly having a rather busy passport year.
