Olive Nwosu is a Nigerian writer and director known for telling authentic African stories. Born in Lagos, she is a BAFTA Pigott Scholar and an Alex Sichel Fellow at Columbia University School of the Arts where she completed her MFA in directing and screenwriting. Her short film Troublemaker has been widely screened at international festivals, winning awards including Best Student Film at London’s Discover Film Festival and Best Director at Queens World Film Festival. Nwosu’s work draws on her experiences across continents and explores themes of identity and the outsider’s place in society. Her second short, Egúngún (Masquerade), received support from the British Council and British Film Institute. She has also participated in the prestigious Sundance Screenwriting Lab. Nwosu’s first feature, Lady, premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, earning critical attention. She continues to develop films that center nuanced African perspectives and expand the reach of contemporary Nigerian cinema.
