Biography

Dr. Christian Chika Onu is a legendary Nigerian film director, screenwriter, actor and author who is widely regarded as one of the founding pioneers of Nollywood. With a directorial portfolio of over 300 films, he was a defining force of the industry's Golden Age spanning the 1990s and early 2000s. He is best known for directing Karishika (1996), one of the most iconic and enduring horror films in Nigerian cinema history, starring Becky Ngozi Okorie, Bob-Manuel Udokwu and Sandra Achums. A film that blended spiritual warfare themes with horror in a way that captivated and terrified Nigerian audiences in equal measure, Karishika remains one of the most discussed Nollywood productions of its era and has since been restored and re-released by film archivists. Beyond Karishika, his credits include Fire on the Mountain (2002), Osuofia and the Wise Men (2008), and Agaba (2009). He also authored The Unusual Story of The Early Years of Nollywood, one of the most important written accounts of the industry's origins. He has won numerous awards for his contributions to Nigerian cinema and is considered an international icon of the craft.
