Biography
Emmanuel Kofi Botwe, better known as Kwaw Kese or “Abodam,” is a Ghanaian hiplife artist and rapper from Agona Swedru in the Central Region. He grew up in modest circumstances and started composing music at around 14 while still in school. After his secondary education at Winneba Secondary School, he worked for three years as a meter reader for the Electricity Company of Ghana before deciding to pursue music full-time. His big break came when he featured on the compilation album Executioner’s Diary with the track “Oye Nonsense,” which brought him recognition. He later joined Hammer of The Last Two’s label and released songs like “Ma Tewo Kwakwa.” In 2005 he founded his own label, Mad-Time Entertainment. His album Abodam 2007 made a major impact and earned him five awards at the 2008 Ghana Music Awards, including Artist of the Year. Kwaw Kese is known for high energy performances and sometimes provocative stage antics. Over the years he’s released many albums and singles, becoming one of Ghana’s most influential and controversial hiplife artists.
