Biography

Fana Mokoena is a South African actor, producer, and politician known for his work in film, television, and public service. Born on May 13, 1971, in Kroonstad, Free State, he studied Theatre and Performance at the University of Cape Town before beginning his professional acting career in the early 1990s. He first gained recognition on stage and later became widely known on television through roles in series such as Generations, Yizo Yizo, and The LAB. Internationally, he is best known for appearing in major films including Hotel Rwanda (2004), World War Z (2013), Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013), and Safe House (2012). Beyond acting, Mokoena is also a politician and founding member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), serving as a Member of Parliament in South Africa between 2014 and 2024. He is regarded as one of South Africa’s most respected actors, balancing a career in entertainment with active political engagement.
