Biography
Fatimah Binta Gimsay is a Nigerian screenwriter, director, and producer based in Lagos. Her storytelling journey began in childhood, rewriting telenovelas for friends. She entered Nollywood by cold-emailing producers, leading to roles as a production assistant and coordinator before focusing on writing. Her credits include Hush, Jemeji, Battleground, Unbroken, Riona, Enakhe, Tinsel, Slum King, and Covenant. She also created and wrote web series like Flat 3B and Man of Her Dreams. Her short films, including Ijo and Why Am I Angry?, showcase her directorial skills. In 2021, she won Best Mobile Phone Film at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival for Why Am I Angry? She founded Hello July Films and hosted the Sceneful Sundays podcast on Midas Radio. Gimsay draws inspiration from Nigerian culture and global influences, aiming to tell stories that resonate with diverse audiences. She admires creatives like Quinta Brunson and Issa Rae and continues to develop projects that push storytelling boundaries.
