Biography
Fred Nii Amugi, is a veteran actor whose career spans over five decades. He attended Broaks Basic and Junior High School, then Takoradi Senior High School, and Nungua Senior High School. Before becoming a full-time actor, Amugi worked in Ghana’s civil service, rising to the role of Acting Director of Supply in the Ministry of Finance, where he served for thirty-three years. Amugi’s acting journey began in 1970 with roles in drama and documentary productions. He gained widespread recognition in 1985 through the television series “Opinto,” which propelled him into the Ghanaian limelight. Over the years he has appeared in many local films, including Shoe Shine Boy, Nyame Bekyere (Parts 1 & 2), Menua Paa Nie, and Housekeepers. His international profile grew with roles in Holby City (BBC), Beasts of No Nation (Netflix), and The Cursed Ones. He has earned several accolades, notably the Best Actor award at the Accra International Film Festival in 1994, the Order of the Volta in 2008, and recognition at the Golden Movie Awards. Amugi continues to be a respected figure in Ghanaian cinema, known for his versatility, dedication, and enduring presence onscreen.
