Biography

Kemi Adesoye is a prominent Nigerian screenwriter renowned for her significant contributions to Nollywood. Born in Kaduna, Nigeria, she initially pursued a career in architecture before discovering her passion for storytelling. Her interest in screenwriting was ignited during her undergraduate studies when she stumbled upon "The Elements of Script Writing" by Irwin R. Blacker. Despite the lack of formal scriptwriting schools in Nigeria at the time, Adesoye taught herself the craft through online resources and later honed her skills at the New York Film Academy. Adesoye's breakthrough came with the critically acclaimed film The Figurine (2009), which won multiple Africa Movie Academy Awards. Her diverse filmography includes Phone Swap (2012), Fifty (2015), Omugwo (2017), A Naija Christmas (2021), and Glamour Girls (2022). In television, she has contributed to popular series such as Tinsel, Shuga Naija, Battleground, and Crazy, Lovely, Cool. Adesoye's storytelling prowess has earned her accolades, including the Best Original Screenplay at the 2013 Nollywood Movies Awards for Phone Swap.
