Leo Obienyi

Biography

Leo Obienyi is a Nigerian filmmaker, writer, and producer known for his focus on genre storytelling, particularly horror and thriller films within Nollywood. He is best known as the creator and director of Alive Till Dawn, a zombie feature film that grew out of his earlier short film Road to Jabi. Through these projects, he has contributed to expanding the scope of Nigerian cinema by exploring action-horror themes that are still relatively uncommon in the industry. Leo’s work is driven by a desire to introduce fresh ideas, cinematic tension, and high-concept narratives into local filmmaking. In addition to directing, he has worked as a writer and producer on other film projects and continues to develop new stories across different formats. Earlier in his career, he gained public attention after winning the Maltavator Challenge, a creative competition that supported young Nigerian talent. Leo remains part of a new wave of filmmakers pushing Nollywood into bolder territory.
