Her film Unseen, Unsung, Unforgotten (2008), co-created with Njoki Mbuthia, delves into the lives of young people living with HIV in Nairobi, offering a nuanced portrayal of their experiences. In 2013, she released Soulfire, a young adult novel that combines elements of fantasy with coming-of-age challenges, appealing to readers aged 15 and above. Beyond her creative endeavors, Mona is an advocate for women's rights and has been recognized for her contributions to African literature and cinema. She was selected for the Development Executive Traineeship (DET), a program aimed at nurturing storytelling talent across Africa, where she collaborated with producers and story experts to deepen her understanding of narrative development.
