Biography

Victor Gatonye is a seasoned Kenyan film and television director with over 15 years of experience in the industry. He began his career in marketing before transitioning into film, starting as a production assistant and rising through various roles to become a director. Gatonye gained prominence through his work on the educational TV drama "Makutano Junction," where he served as co-director by season 7 and head director from seasons 9 to 12. His notable projects include directing the action-packed feature film "40 Sticks," available on Netflix, and the 260-episode telenovela "Kina" for MNET. He has also directed other productions such as "Dream Child," "The Team" season 3, "Shuga," and "Papa Shirandula." In 2017, he was honored with the Best Series Director award at the Riverwood Awards. Beyond directing, Gatonye contributes to the industry as a board member of Slum TV and offers services in directing, writing, and concept development under the film label Simple Pictures. His commitment to storytelling and mentorship continues to influence the East African film landscape.
