Nozizwe Cynthia Jele is a South African novelist celebrated for her debut novel, Happiness is a Four-Letter Word, which won the 2011 Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book. The novel was later adapted into a successful 2016 film. Her second novel, The Ones with Purpose, was published in 2018 and was longlisted for the 2020 International Dublin Literary Award. Beyond her writing, Jele is committed to promoting indigenous languages and literature. In 2024, she launched Happiness Books, a publishing company focused on translating popular fiction and non-fiction into isiZulu. She is also working on adapting The Ones with Purpose into a television series and is developing new literary projects.
