Steven Frederic Seagal is an American actor, martial artist, producer, screenwriter, and musician. A 7th-dan black belt in Aikido, he taught in Japan and became the first foreigner to run an Aikido dojo there. He broke into Hollywood with Above the Law (1988), and went on to star in action hits like Under Siege. Seagal also hosted the reality show Steven Seagal: Lawman, served as a reserve deputy sheriff, and released two studio albums. He holds citizenship in the U.S., Russia, and Serbia, and is known for his outspoken political views and controversial public life.
