Zack Amata

Biography

Zack Amata is a Nigerian actor, filmmaker, producer and respected figure in the country’s entertainment history. He is a key member of the Amata family, one of Nollywood’s most influential dynasties, and father to filmmaker Jeta Amata. Zack first rose to prominence on television, especially for his role as the strict, memorable Mr. Okonzua in the classic series Behind The Clouds. Over several decades he has appeared in a wide range of films and dramas, including Black November, Mary Slessor and Magic Money, and contributed to productions that span English and local Nigerian languages. Beyond acting, Amata has used film to address social issues like HIV/AIDS awareness and peacebuilding, reflecting his belief in the power of storytelling to educate and inspire. He has also served as chairman of the Centre for Change and Community Development, a group focused on using media to support positive social change in Nigeria.
