Fresh off Freedom Way’s big wins at the 2025 AMVCA for Best Writing and Best Movie, director Blessing Uzzi shared a deeply personal reflection that goes beyond the glitz of awards.

In a post inspired by actor Uzor Arukwe’s recent remarks, she reminded creatives that true success isn’t about platforms or titles, but about the spirit you bring to the work. “Our industry cannot and should not be limited to YouTube,” she wrote. “Whatever your hands find to do, do it with excellence.”

Uzzi emphasized that humility, consistency, and genuine relationships are what sustain long-term growth in the creative space. “Build genuine relationships, and let your work and character speak for you,” she said. “In the end, we all need each other in this journey.”

Her message turned tender as she recalled a defining moment during the making of Freedom Way. After being let down by a production partner, she found unexpected support in Cobhams Asuquo, who checked in daily and offered whatever help he could. “He called every single day and asked, ‘Blessing, do you have money to shoot today?’ Then he would send money, no matter how small,” she wrote. “I still cry every time I remember. It wasn’t about music; it was about showing up when it mattered.”

That friendship and resilience carried Freedom Way through tough times to its current success — a reminder that excellence is built not just on talent, but on heart and community.

As a final note, Uzzi revealed that the Freedom Way soundtrack, produced by Cobhams, Loudaa, and Timi Dakolo, will be released this November, a project she says captures the same spirit of passion and purpose that defined the film.
