Biography

Bukky Bakray is a British actress and writer known for her breakthrough performance in the coming-of-age film Rocks (2019). Born in 2002 in Hackney, East London, to Nigerian parents, she was discovered at school by director Sarah Gavron, who cast her in the lead role despite no formal acting experience. Her performance earned widespread critical acclaim and made her one of the youngest nominees for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress. She went on to win the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2021, becoming one of the youngest recipients in the award’s history. Following her breakout role, Bakray expanded her career into television and film, appearing in You Don’t Know Me (2021), The Strays (2023), and Apple TV+ series Liaison (2023). She is also part of the cast of the upcoming Children of Blood and Bone adaptation. Known for her naturalistic acting style and emotional depth, she continues to emerge as one of the most promising young talents in British cinema.
