Idris Elba is a British actor, producer, and musician known for his dynamic roles across film and television. Born on September 6, 1972, in Hackney, London, to parents of Sierra Leonean and Ghanaian descent, Elba began his career in the 1990s with roles in British television. He gained international recognition portraying Russell “Stringer” Bell in HBO’s The Wire and later as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther in the BBC series Luther, a role that earned him a Golden Globe Award. His film credits include Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Beasts of No Nation, and Thor, where he portrayed Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Elba has also lent his voice to animated films like Zootopia and Finding Dory. Beyond acting, he is a skilled DJ and musician, performing under the name DJ Big Driis. Elba is also an entrepreneur and philanthropist, co-owning the Formula E racing team Kiro Racing Co. and engaging in various charitable initiatives.
