Byron Howard is a celebrated American animator and director who began his Disney career as a tour guide at Disney-MGM Studios in Florida. He worked his way up through the animation ranks, contributing to classics like Mulan and Lilo & Stitch. His directorial debut was the 2008 film Bolt. He went on to direct the modern classic Tangled (2010), which revitalized the Disney princess genre. He reached new heights co-directing the massive hit Zootopia (2016) and the musical phenomenon Encanto (2021)—winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature for both. He returns to co-direct Zootopia 2 alongside his frequent collaborator Jared Bush, releasing in 2025.
