Biography
David 'Tosh' Gitonga is a Kenyan director and producer renowned for his compelling storytelling and impactful films. Born in Nanyuki, Kenya, on September 20, 1981, he began his career in the film industry as a production assistant on the 2002 film Dangerous Affair. His passion for filmmaking led him to the One Fine Day Film Workshop, where he directed his debut feature, Nairobi Half Life (2012). Nairobi Half Life garnered international acclaim and was Kenya's first submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 85th Academy Awards. Gitonga's subsequent works, including Disconnect (2018) and Volume (2023), further solidified his reputation in the industry. Beyond his directorial achievements, Gitonga has served as an executive producer and continues to contribute to the growth of the Kenyan film industry. His work remains a testament to the power of authentic African narratives in global cinema.
