Douglas Lawrence Osowski, professionally known as Mr. Lawrence, is an American voice actor, comedian, writer, and animator who is a cornerstone of the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise. Best known for providing the booming, megalomaniacal voice of Sheldon J. Plankton since the show's 1999 debut, he is also a prolific writer and storyboard artist who helped shape the series' surrealist humor alongside creator Stephen Hillenburg. In 2026, Lawrence is celebrating a career-defining era for his character. He is the star, story writer, and co-screenwriter of "Plankton: The Movie", which premiered on Netflix in March 2025. The film, which critics praised for its deep dive into the villain's psyche, was a passion project Lawrence had pitched years prior, finally giving Plankton his first solo feature film. He also plays a major role in the current theatrical hit "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants" (released December 2025), reprising his voice roles as Plankton and Larry the Lobster. Beyond the films, Lawrence serves as the story editor for the flagship SpongeBob series and is a co-developer and head writer for the spinoffs "The Patrick Star Show" and "Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years", ensuring narrative consistency across the expanding universe. Before his time in Bikini Bottom, Lawrence was a key creative force on the 90s classic "Rocko's Modern Life", where he voiced the neurotic turtle Filburt and directed several episodes. His distinct voice work also includes the role of Edward in Camp Lazlo.
