Biography

Ilse Klink is an award-winning South African actress and singer who has been a staple of local television for over two decades. Born in Cape Town, she made history as the first black person to graduate from the University of Pretoria's drama school. She became a household name in 1999 with her role as Vanessa Booysens in the hit soap opera Isidingo, a character she played for nearly a decade, earning an Avanti Award for Best Actress. Klink has since reinvented herself with gritty, dramatic roles. She won a SAFTA (South African Film and Television Award) for her supporting role in the film Stroomop and received critical acclaim for her portrayal of the matriarch Shireen in the neo-noir series Skemerdans. She is also the lead singer of the Afrikaans alternative rock band Ekstra Dik.
