Jonathan Harden

Biography

Jonathan Harden is one of Northern Ireland’s most versatile creative exports, known for a "whiskey-like" screen presence that balances authority with deep vulnerability. Born in Belfast to an American mother and Irish father, he became a fixture of the UK acting scene with a breakout role as the eccentric Gregory in the final season of Peep Show (2015). In the mid-2020s, Harden has become synonymous with the "Belfast Noir" movement. He gained widespread acclaim as Inspector David "Jonty" Johnston in the BBC cop drama Blue Lights, a role he continued into the series' later seasons. In 2025 and 2026, he successfully balanced high-profile television roles with a thriving directing career, recently completing a Shadow Director tenure on Hope Street. He remains a vocal advocate for mental health and the "honest" realities of the acting profession.
