Titilola Atinuke Alexandrah Shoneyin (professionally known as Lola Shoneyin) is a Nigerian poet, novelist, and cultural curator who serves as a central figure in the modern African literary landscape. She is the founder of the Aké Arts and Book Festival, widely regarded as the continent's premier annual gathering for creatives and intellectuals. In 2026, Shoneyin's work is the subject of a major cinematic event. Her debut novel, "The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives" (2010), has been adapted into a feature film scheduled for a wide theatrical release in December 2026. Produced by Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Films in an unprecedented partnership with Genesis, Nile, and Silverbird groups, the film features an all-star cast including Odunlade Adekola (as Baba Segi), Shaffy Bello, and Kunle Remi. Shoneyin serves as a co-screenwriter and producer on the project, which explores the complex, humorous, and poignant dynamics of a polygamous household in modern Nigeria. Beyond the screen, Shoneyin continues to direct the Book Buzz Foundation and the Aké Arts and Book Festival, which held its 13th edition in November 2025 under the theme "Reclaiming Truth." She also runs Ouida Books, a publishing house and cultural center in Lagos, further solidifying her influence on the next generation of African writers. Her literary portfolio includes three volumes of poetry and the children's book Mayowa and the Masquerades.
