Two friends, Jato and Rogers, break into what they believe is an empty home, only to find a pregnant woman inside who goes into labour that same night. Jato makes the decision to take her to the hospital. She does not survive. Left with a motherless newborn he names Mercy, Jato chooses to raise her as his own, building his entire life around the child. Years later, when the truth about Mercy's origins begins to surface and her biological father comes forward to claim her, Jato must face the consequences of a decision made in the dark and ask whether a good life lived can ever fully settle a debt from the past.
