Biography

Ayo Edebiri is an American actress, comedian, writer and director born in Boston on October 3, 1995. She is best known for her role as chef Sydney Adamu on The Bear, which earned her a Golden Globe Award, a Primetime Emmy Award and multiple Screen Actors Guild Awards for her performance in the comedy-drama series. Edebiri grew up in a family with roots in Barbados and Nigeria, studied dramatic writing at New York University, and began her career performing stand-up comedy and writing for television. Her early work includes writing and voice roles on shows like Big Mouth and What We Do in the Shadows, as well as acting roles on Dickinson and in Comedy Central projects. In film, she has appeared in Theater Camp, Bottoms and voice roles in animated features. Edebiri also directs and writes episodes of television, making her one of the most versatile creative voices in comedy and drama today.
